The potential application of our materials across transport infrastructure is one we’re really excited about. A glazed cabin heats up fast in direct sun, and the air conditioning that fights it burns energy, or in an electric vehicle, range. We believe our passive, heat-activated materials could one day do for vehicle glazing what they already do for greenhouses: turn white as the glass warms, then clear again as it cools, using no power to do it.

Where we see the potential

Cooler cabins

Could pull down peak cabin temperatures in direct sun.

Less air-con demand

In an EV, cooling saved is range gained.

Passive by design

Nothing to power or control on the vehicle.

Comfort

The potential to soften glare without blacking out the view.

Lightweight

A material rather than a mechanism.

Adaptable

The switching temperature could be tuned to the platform and its climate.
